Train Station, Wolli Creek, NSW

Wolli Creek train station was originally opened in May 2000 and is an important interchange point between the Airport and Illawarra train line linking Sydney with the southern coastal towns. The station is located on a former industrial site which has recently undergone an urban renewal project and been redeveloped with quality high density housing for 6500 residents. The train station has recently been upgraded to cater for the increased number of residents moving into the area.

Project Design Brief

The extended railway platforms required a large service pit to cater for the increased electrical infrastructure. The 1.3m x 3.6m pit required 10 multi-part access covers that could accommodate the platform pavement finishes.

ACO's Solution

  • Rhinocast® 10-part multi-part cover and frame system with 12mm decorative stainless steel edge
  • ACO’s Technical Services Department provided the structural engineer with multi-part scheduling and rebate drawings to integrate the cover system into the platform slab
  • ACO’s Technical Service Department provided the structural engineer with multi-part scheduling and rebate drawings to integrate the cover system into the concrete slab
Wolli Creek Train Station

Benefits

  • The 12mm high stainless steel decorative edge allowed for tactile paving to be installed into each cover, enabling continuity of the pavement materials
  • The covers and beam can be removed individually providing easy access to maintain the underground electrical services
