Connect South, Perth WA

Connect South was an initiative to redevelop the Mends Street area as a hub for visitors with improved public transportation. With links to Perth Zoo, designers wanted to greet visitors with an iconic sculpture of a six tonne numbat – a marsupial native to Western Australia. The structure doubles as a canopy to provide shelter from the weather.

Project Design Brief

New cable infrastructure was required for additional lighting, communications and security coverage. With new pavement finishes throughout the site, designers did not want pits to be an eyesore on the new pavements. Access covers needed to be strong enough for maintenance and emergency vehicles.

ACO's Solution

Benefits

  • Infill access covers allow pavers to be installed in them for a seamless finish with the adjacent pavement
