Barrack Street, Perth, WA

As part of the Perth CityLink rail upgrade to connect Perth’s CBD with Northbridge, Barrack Street was converted to a two-way to reduce traffic congestion and provide motorists with another choice when navigating the city centre.

The upgrade also aided traffic flows to and from the new Elizabeth Quay development site. Barrack Street is a designated Heritage Conservation area and the street conversion aims to revitalise the area. The streetscape comprises new trees, lighting, paving and street furniture to enhance the environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

Project Design Brief

The project involved a significant upgrade to the electrical services infrastructure, which included traffic signals, lighting, communications and CCTV coverage for safety. The City of Perth also installed multi-functional power poles, which utilises one pole for a number of services. The new pole installation involved the removal of existing footings and the supply and installation of new pole footings and access covers.
