Discreet Access Covers For All Applications

Access covers are an essential part of every project, yet their specification and selection is often overlooked. In some urban pavements, the result of this can detract from the overall aesthetic.

However, you can specify an infill cover for any floor or pavement that blends seamlessly with its surrounds.

Beyond the aesthetics – all applications must consider these three selection criteria:

First and foremost, the access cover needs to have a clear opening that is large enough for access within the enclosure. The clear opening refers to the unobstructed opening of the frame.

If a single cover’s clear opening isn’t large enough, multi-part access covers are available. Continue reading below to learn about our ACCTRIX® online program for multi-part configurations.

The lifting direction also needs to be considered. Iron covers are only designed to be moved in one direction and are pulled towards the operator to open the lid.

Designers and installers must consider other obstacles around the enclosure that may impede the enclosure being accessed. This image shows an incorrectly installed access cover where the covers couldn’t be lifted as the wall is in the way!

Lastly, the load class of the cover is essential. Selectors must consider the traffic that this access cover will be exposed to, not only for the day-to-day, but also emergency vehicles and maintenance vehicles, like cherry pickers.
